New Benefit to ABYC Members!
Westlawn Transfer Opens Door to Discounted Courses for ABYC Members
June 2, 2003, Edgewater, MD: The American Boat & Yacht Council
(ABYC) today announced that as part of its affiliation with the
Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology (also known as the Westlawn
School of Yacht Design), ABYC members will now be eligible to receive
a discount on Westlawn courses and programs.
Sharon Busker, Membership Director of ABYC said, “We are
excited to be able to offer this type of educational opportunity
to our members.” Busker continued, “Members can now
take these courses to further their careers or interests, and learn
about yacht design and construction on their own schedule, at a
discounted price.” “We are continually looking for ways
to diversify our member benefits, and we are confident that our
members will see the value in this!” concluded Busker.

Dave Gerr, Director of Westlawn stated, “Offering discounts
for Westlawn courses to ABYC members is only the first of several
planned steps to increase both the value of ABYC membership and
to enhance the Westlawn Institute.” Gerr continued, “The

comprehensive professional education and training is what the ABYC-Westlawn

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) is a not-for-profit
organization that has been developing, writing and updating the
safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States
for nearly 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as certification
programs for marine technicians. These standards are available on
CD-ROM and in printed form. Membership, discount information and
